During an ECoG – or Electrocochleography –, the electrical activity of the inner ear is recorded. The test lasts approximately one hour and involves taking recordings from two small electrodes taped onto the patient’s head and from one very flexible and very small ball electrode placed in the patient’s ear canal. Additionally, one or two ordinary ear drops are placed into the ear canal to dissolve wax.
There is no discomfort with this test and the ear drops have only a short tickling sensation. The sound will be presented to the patient’s ear, but he/she does not have to respond. There is no radiation involved in this test.
